COMPANY To END Liquid Paint PRODUCTION in Morganton, NC
BASF will consolidate its coatings manufacturing operations in North America by discontinuing production of automotive liquid coatings at its Morganton, NC site and moving production to facilities in Decatur, AL, Greenville, OH, Tultitlan, Mexico and Windsor, Ontario. The transfer begins this month, with the shutdown of liquid coatings operations in Morganton scheduled for June 30.
BASF will continue to produce powder coatings at Morganton with a staff of 10 employees. There will be approximately 100 positions eliminated at the site due to the shuttering of liquid manufacturing.
“In an effort to capitalize on significant productivity gains in our manufacturing sites, we have the opportunity to further streamline and strengthen our North American manufacturing footprint,” said Rainer Blair, group vice president of BASF Coatings in North America. “The consolidation of our manufacturing operations will allow BASF to competitively deliver the most innovative and robust solutions in the marketplace.”
In other company news, BASF Coatings will restructure its distribution network for Glasurit and Salcomix products in Poland by taking over and expanding Webolit-Polska Sp.z o.o., its current importer based in Katowice.
The takeover is scheduled for this quarter.
