Patent No. U.S. 7,005,474 B2
Marine Research Institute of Chemical Industry, Qingdao, China has received a patent for an acrylic acid-modified epoxy polyester resin, comprising 100 pbw of a copolymer made from an unsaturated fatty acid-modified polyester and bisphenol A type epoxy resin, and 20-40 pbw of poly(meth)acrylic acid (ester). It can be prepared by a process comprising the following steps: alcoholyzing a drying oil with a polyol; adding successively, to the product from the first step, a dibasic anhydride, an unsaturated fatty acid containing a conjugated double bond and an epoxy resin, and esterifying to obtain an epoxy polyester; and copolymerizing the epoxy polyester and an acrylic monomer.
