AkzoNobel Car Refinishes has launched a new do-it-yourself (DIY) repair and protection solution for minor car scratches. Already launched in ten countries across Europe, StickerFix is an adhesive system which uses patented AkzoNobel paint technology in combination with a specially developed vinyl sticker. As well as covering up minor nicks, it can also be used to protect vulnerable areas such as door edges. Several hundred bodyshops are now selling the product and the process is simple. When a customer brings a vehicle into a bodyshop for repair, the repair specialist can easily match the vehicle’s color and spray it onto an adhesive vinyl sheet while carrying out the repair job. After adding a clearcoat to the vinyl sheet and then cutting it into specific shapes, the customer is given a DIY repair system which can later be applied to any damaged or vulnerable areas. The system, which is sold in a specially developed transparent package of A5 (half-page) sheets, can also be produced in standard colors and sold over-the-counter at the dealer service department.
