PPG Industries has been granted a patent for an aircraft transparency, comprised a substrate comprised of a thermoplastic material; a primer formed over at least a portion of the substrate, the primer comprised of the reaction product of phenol, 4,4′-(1-methylethylidene)bis-, polymer with 2,2′-[(1-methylethylidene) bis(4,1-phenyleneoxymethylene)] bis[oxirane]; and bis(trimethoxysilylpropyl)amine, wherein the reaction product, when hydrolyzed, comprised of at least 12 silanol groups; a radiation protective coating formed over at least a portion of the primer, the protective coating is comprised of indium tin oxide and having a sheet resistance less than or equal to 10 ohms per square; and an overcoat formed over at least a portion of the radiation protective coating, wherein the overcoat comprises at least one of polyurethane or siloxane.
