Rutgers, The State University, New Brunswick, NJ has received a patent for a flame-retardant coating composition consisting of a cross-linked thermosetting polymer varnish, wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, alkyd polyester, and cross-linked polyacrylate; a metal hydroxide present in an amount from approximately 25-35% by weight of the composition; an alcohol and water.
