World’s largest green building conference and expo comes to India for first time.

Architect, author, researcher and educator Edward Mazria will deliver the opening plenary keynote “India Rising: Providing Global Leadership” at Greenbuild India, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) – the creators of the LEED green building rating system – and ABEC Exhibitions & Conferences Ltd., (ABEC), announced in a joint press release. Greenbuild is the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. Greenbuild India is scheduled for Nov. 2-5 in Mumbai – the first Greenbuild hosted in India. According to USGBC, Mazria’s research on sustainability, energy consumption, resilience and greenhouse gas emissions has “helped reshape the role architecture, building, planning and design play in helping to address these challenges.” Mazria is also the founder and CEO of Architecture 2030, a “think tank developing real-world solutions for 21st century problems,” the press release states. “Mazria’s work has inspired innovative thinking and actionable solutions that are a part of the movement to transform our built environment,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the organization that certifies all LEED projects worldwide. “Market transformation happens one project at a time, and his work reiterates that as an industry we have the ability to dramatically transform the world we live, learn, work and play in for the better.” In 2014, Mazria presented Roadmap to Zero Emissions at the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The roadmap laid out a flexible approach to achieve zero carbon emissions in the built environment by mid-century, according to the press release. He also issued the 2050 Imperative adopted by the International Union of Architects, which outlined a commitment to plan and design to carbon neutral standards, the press release states. According to USGBC, the commitment has been accepted by regional professional organizations representing over 1.3 million architects across 124 countries. “At Greenbuild India, we will provide a vision for how zero-carbon growth can take place in a growing economy through building design and planning, and clean energy development,” said Mazria. “Greenbuild India will bring the green building community and LEED leaders together,” added Ramanujam. “It is through our relentless pursuit of new ideas, technologies and thinking that will drive the adoption of greener business practices that enhance performance and deliver human health benefits.” Greenbuild India, presented by USGBC and ABEC Exhibitions & Conferences, is slated to take place at the Bombay Exhibition Center (NESCO). The conference will take place Nov. 2-3 with the expo running until Nov. 5. Attendees will get a look at LEED v4, the latest version of the world’s most widely used green building rating system, and GBCI’s suite of rating systems that are helping to drive the adoption of green practices across all levels of business.
