AkzoNobel developed a scratch-resistant powder coating for the architectural market in both matte and satin finishes. The company added the pioneering dual functionality to its Interpon D range. Known as Interpon D X-Pro, it’s available in both standard and superdurable formulations. The product was subjected to rigorous testing using industry-standard Martindale test equipment. The high gloss retention scores are proof of the coating’s improved scratch resistance. “Our product innovation is all about going beyond expectations and we believe we can now provide the best possible scratch resistance solution,” said Daniela Vlad, managing director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business. “This way, the coated surfaces can be handled, assembled or transported with better scratch-resistant protection.” “Our architectural customers – particularly fabricators of aluminum windows and doors – told us they wanted a scratch-resistant powder coating, especially for darker colors, and that’s exactly what we’ve delivered,” added Jean-Paul Moonen, the business’ segment manager for Architectural Coatings. Products coated with Interpon D X-Pro are less susceptible to abrasions during handling and transportation. They now arrive at the end of their journey looking as good as they did at the start. AkzoNobel was the first global powder coatings supplier to obtain the EPD certification back in 2015. A recently renewed EPD for the Interpon D range of architectural powder coatings lasts until 2023. Interpon D X-Pro can be supplied from stock throughout Europe.
