Arxada

Arxada, a global leader in specialty chemicals and innovative solutions, announced the launch of Polyboost™, a unique multifunctional additive developed to enhance a wide range of paint and coating properties. Polyboost is brought to market under Arxada’s new LEAP (Leverage Enhanced Additive Performance) innovation platform.

The company has launched Polyboost at a time when the paint and coatings industry faces numerous challenges, from increased product recalls, a diminishing list of approved formulation ingredients to work with, and tightening safety and
environmental standards.

Polyboost is a multifunctional additive that improves stability of both pH and viscosity of paint formulations and supports low preservative use rates, which may avoid an H317 hazard label.

“Polyboost represents the culmination of long-term discussions with customers globally,” says Arxada’s Nigel Atkinson, VP – paints & coatings, “not to mention substantial investment in R&D resources, and countless laboratory evaluations in many paint
formulation types.”

Atkinson adds that Polyboost is currently undergoing final evaluations at more than 10 major multinational paint and coatings manufacturers and is achieving excellent results.

“Arxada is the first to bring this breakthrough additive technology to the market, further establishing our leadership in innovation,” said Arxada’s Rick Strittmatter, chief technology, innovation, and sustainability officer.

“The performance enhancements imparted by Polyboost are remarkable; this multifunctional additive consistently returns improvements in various aspects of paint formulations, from flow control and defoaming to product stability while supporting low preservative use rates.”

Benefits1 of Polyboost to paint formulations include:

• Improves stability of both viscosity and pH without impacting color.

• Supports low preservative use rates, which may avoid H317 hazard label.

• Compatible with EU Ecolabel and Nordic Swan.

• Free of VOC2.

Evonik

Evonik Coating Additives introduces TEGO Foamex 8051, the latest addition to its TEGO Foamex line of defoamers. This new, highly efficient siloxane defoamer is specifically designed for use in waterborne decorative coatings.

TEGO®Foamex 8051 offers coating formulators several advantages. It provides a cost-effective solution for high-performance applications while meeting strict environmental regulations.

The additive is a 100% active defoamer concentrate based on polyethersiloxane technology, and it has been designed to be relatively easy to incorporate into formulations. It delivers consistent performance by effectively defoaming high PVC coatings, maintaining strong defoaming persistence under high shear, and working well in the grinding stage.

Additionally, it maintains its defoaming effectiveness even after storage. The product has broad global registrations (US, EU, China, Japan, etc.), contains no reportable hazardous substances, and complies with Ecolabel 2014/312/EU, with VOC levels at 0.08% and SVOC levels at 0.19% (DIN ISO 11890/2).

Evonik’s Coating Additives business offers a wide range of specialty additives for coatings and printing inks. With decades of experience, the business develops products for various coatings markets, including decorative coatings, industrial coatings, automotive coatings, and printing inks.

Micro Powders

Micro Powders has introduced MicroTex® 950, a texture additive for powder coatings, as the newest addition to its PTFE replacement portfolio.

With regulatory restrictions on the horizon for PFAS substances, formulators currently using PTFE-based additives are scrambling to find replacement ingredients.

MicroTex 950 is a solution for safe and compliant, high-performance powder coatings.

This new ingredient provides uniform fine texturing with the ability to achieve single-digit gloss reduction similar to PTFE texturizers.

Early field testing has proven effective results in chemistries including polyester/TGIC, polyester/HAA, and polyester/epoxy.

Over the past several years, Micro Powders has developed a portfolio of PTFE-free replacement products based on their unique nanocomposite technology. These additives perform as well or even better than their PTFE-containing counterparts, oftentimes at a lower cost.

Many customers have already successfully transitioned to these products across a multitude of industries including can and container coatings, graphic arts, and architectural coatings.
