PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business announced that DURAFORM AP Easy Care clear coat has been NSF/ANSI 51-certified for non-direct food contact applications by NSF International. The NSF “formula-material” certification enables manufacturers of stainless-steel and aluminum appliances and food-service equipment to finish products used for incidental food contact with Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat. As a polyester-based coil coating, Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat is specially formulated for the appliance industry to provide manufacturing benefits such as exceptional forming flexibility, strong bonding to metal substrates and excellent flow characteristics. Benefits for commercial customers and consumers include surfaces that are easy to clean with standard household cleaners and increased resistance to fingerprints and smudges. Phil Buhr, PPG product manager, coil and building products, said formula-material approval of Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat enables PPG to meet growing demand for NSF/ANSI-certified products. “Stainless-steel appliances are prevalent in the commercial industry, while aluminum is becoming increasingly popular because of its lighter weight, lower cost and styling options,” he said. “Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat enhances the appeal of these products by providing value-added benefits that make them easier to manufacture, sell and maintain.” In addition to Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat, PPG offers DURACRON® white acrylic coating, which also is NSF/ANSI 51-certified for non-direct food contact applications. Duraform AP Easy Care clear coat and Duracron white acrylic coatings are used in refrigerators, refrigerator trucks, ice makers, display cases, shelving and backsplashes. As the world’s leading coatings company, PPG offers a comprehensive array of electrocoat (e-coat), pretreatment, liquid and powder products for metal and wood finishing to manufacturers in many industries. In addition to providing a broad range of industrial coatings and a full spectrum of color choices, PPG backs its products with industry-leading technical expertise delivered through an international customer-support network. NSF International (www.nsf.org) is an independent global organization that writes standards as well as testing and certifying products for the building materials, food, water, health sciences and consumer goods industries to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment. It was founded in 1944 and operates in more than 155 countries.
