AkzoNobel’s protective coatings brand, International, has introduced its leading epoxy passive fire protection (PFP), Chartek ONE, globally at GasTech 2025, following a successful launch in the Middle East last year.
Chartek ONE is a single coat, mesh-free solution that simplifies PFP application for assets in the energy sector, offering one solution for total protection.
Streamlining the installation process, the product maximizes efficiency as well as enhancing health and safety. It provides three hours of jet and pool fire protection across a wide operating temperature range, shielding assets against different types of fires, including cryogenic and hydrocarbon fires, while providing robust corrosion resistance.
Chartek ONE’s 100% solids formula is boron-free and contains no chlorinated plasticizers, reducing occupational risks while minimizing environmental impact – reinforcing AkzoNobel’s commitment to sustainability.
Its mesh-free design eliminates the need for reinforcement in hydrocarbon pool and jet fire protection, including high heat flux jet fires. This simplifies and speeds up PFP system installation both in the workshop and onsite, while lowering installed weight and reducing labor and material costs – without compromising fire protection performance. These benefits are especially critical in industries with strict weight constraints, such as offshore oil and gas.
Developed to simplify even the most demanding projects, these features can reduce workshop hours by up to 59 percent saving users both time and money throughout projects and over the lifetime of the asset.
Chartek ONE is certified to meet the industry’s highest standards, including NORSOK M-501 Revision 7, ISO 21843, ISO 22899 and UL1709 Edition 5.
To ensure ease of application and real-world reliability, it also underwent rigorous testing beyond industry standards, including performance trials under jet fire exposure, loaded beams after external weathering, and termination detailing – scenarios where failures most often occur. By exceeding the minimum testing requirements, AkzoNobel provides assurance that protection is proven not just in the laboratory, but in the field.
Robin Wade, Fire Protection Technical Lead at AkzoNobel, said: “Our initial launch of Chartek ONE in the Middle East created strong momentum, with customers able to witness the product in action during live spray trials. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with feedback highlighting the speed at which the system builds to the required thickness, the ease of application, and the durability of the cured coating. Its mesh-free design was particularly well received, offering faster application and fewer complications, delivering exactly what the industry has been asking for.
“Our global launch of Chartek ONE at Gastech in Milan marks an important milestone, bringing our flagship solution to one of the most influential stages for the energy sector. As the industry accelerates toward LNG, hydrogen and carbon capture, this is the natural platform to demonstrate the value our product can deliver. In every case, the principle behind Chartek ONE is clear. Never compromise.”
AkzoNobel has been ranked first among peers in major sustainability indices, such as Sustainalytics, and has been placed in the top one per cent of all companies by EcoVadis. These achievements reflect a development process where environmental impact is considered at every stage, giving customers greater confidence in the product’s safety, reliability and sustainability.
Chartek ONE is now available for customers across Europe, joining a portfolio of products trusted worldwide to protect assets in the most demanding environments.
