The Oman Oil Company (OOC) together with its subsidiary, the chemical company Oxea, has signed an agreement with the German University of Technology (GUtech) in Maskat, Oman. According to this agreement, GUtech, a private university that is associated with the RWTH Aachen (University of Technology North Rhine-Westphalia), will prepare university graduates within the framework of the newly developed “Oxea Graduate Programme” for work at Oxea plants. The university maintains excellent relationships with academic institutions in Germany and teaches German as a mandatory module in its own Bachelor curricula. The Oxea Graduate Programme targets graduates of the various Oman universities in engineering, finance, marketing/sales, and IT. Participants are first familiarized with OOC and subsequently acquire a deeper understanding of the language and culture of the country in which they are planning to stay. Then, the participants will work at one of the Oxea locations for at least two years. Participants with a technical background will get to know the Oxea technologies and be given an opportunity to work on real projects. After their return to Oman, the participants are expected to support the development of the Duqm Special Economic Zone. Dr. Martina Flöel, spokesperson of Oxea’s Executive Board, emphasized the importance of the cooperation with the University: “With our Oxea Graduate Programme, we would like to facilitate work in foreign countries for Omani graduates. GUtech will prepare them in an optimal way for work at any of Oxea’s locations for example in Germany or the USA.” “High-value education programs like this are very important for the development and the growth of Oman, because they qualify our graduates for the labor market. For this purpose, we cooperate with recognized educational institutions in the Sultanate such as GUtech, and we monitor the implementation of the programs we sponsor through expert teams.” says Isam Al Zadjali, CEO of the Oman Oil Company.
