With the new short-chain fatty alcohol n-Nonanol, chemical company Oxea is further expanding its large portfolio of higher alcohols. Due to its almost completely linear structure, n-Nonanol is a potent and cost-effective alternative to natural alcohols, which are made from palm oil or coconut oil. Depending on the field of application, it is particularly well suited as raw material for the production of lubricants, additives, plasticizers, and surfactants that are typically used in personal care products. n-Nonanol is commercially available as of today. “Due to its mainly linear structure, Oxea’s n-Nonanol behaves quite similar to C8/C10 alcohols. This enables our customers to produce similar products with the same performance – at competitive cost and with high supply reliability. While C8/C10 derivatives are mainly generated as by-products and subject to significant price and availability variation, Oxea produces n-Nonanol on purpose as a primary product,” said Dr. Christoph Balzarek, Commercial Business Director at Oxea for Amines, Higher Aldehydes, and Specialty Derivatives. “With n-Heptanol, we successfully launched the first linear higher alcohol in 2013. With n-Nonanol, we are expanding this portfolio,” he added. “Oxea enjoys complete backward integration with its products. This allows us to produce very reliably and to react flexibly to market and customer demand,” explained Miguel Mantas, Managing Director at Oxea responsible for Sales and Marketing. “In the future”, Mantas emphasizes, “we shall continue to invest in the further development of our production capacities for oxo derivatives. They are an important part of our successful strategy of expanding into profitable growth markets.”
