The Pittsburgh Paints Company announces Warm Mahogany (PPG1060-7) as its 2026 Color of the Year. A rich red that is both dynamic and refined, Warm Mahogany answers the call of human connection in residential, hospitality and commercial design.

The essence of Warm Mahogany turns spaces into experiences, drawing away from the boundaries of annual trends and adapting itself to suit the functions of any interior. Its brown undertones ground a room, while its lively, red hues add warmth and abundance.

Warm Mahogany thrives in environments designed to encourage depth of conversation, such as dining rooms and cafes, while simultaneously breathing sophistication and timelessness in rejuvenating spaces like libraries and study rooms.

“In 2026, we anticipate consumers will embrace opportunities to rest, rejuvenate and connect with others, prioritizing their wellness across all aspects of their lives,” says Ashley McCollum, color expert at The Pittsburgh Paints Company. “The desire for increased social intimacy requires spaces that promote togetherness, a core design focus that moves away from abiding to trends and delivers refined aesthetics that feel timeless and classic.”

Evoking references to shades of rust and reddened soils, Warm Mahogany links to tradition and craftmanship, with a connection to recharging oneself in nature. According to McCollum, this substantial hue’s futuristic, expressive mood will encourage creativity, artistry and curation.

From Artificial Intelligence (AI) to new forms of craftsmanship, McCollum anticipates that 2026 will bring a deep longing for new expressions in design.

“Just as quiet luxury brought us years of warm neutrals, our spaces now require a color that can feel both calming and adventurous,” says McCollum. “Warm Mahogany is effortlessly pragmatic and daring, quiet and loud, introverted and extroverted. It’s vivid enough to draw immediate attention and reserved enough to make a timeless statement. This versatility lends itself well to the sentiment consumers are looking to express through design.”

This year’s Color of the Year fits within four key design themes:

• Portal: A light, imaginative aesthetic that cleverly balances natural, airy spaces with hints of AI-inspired illusions in the form of unique textures, finishes and furnishings. Its mood is highly creative, dreamy and expressive.

• Ode: A moody, introspective and often poetic journey into enchanted design, Ode holds a focus on social intimacy. Within this theme, a sense of mystery and art-full design are embraced, along with an interest in special textures, materials, and ornamentation.

• Collective: Vibrant, lively and energetic, Collective focuses on gathering people, moments, prints, colors or mixed metals to encourage sharing and rebuilding community.

• Heirloom: The trend equivalent of a sabbatical, Heirloom steps away from shapes and materials that are “of the moment” and delivers refined aesthetics with understated appeal and elevated quality.
