PPG announced that the PPG Foundation recently invested more than $18,000 in two California organizations in support of educational and community sustainability programs. The grants were made on behalf of PPG’s aerospace business, which operates an administrative office and plant in Sylmar, California. A $13,500 grant to Xbots Robotics will help expand the robotics team’s GoBabyGo! outreach initiative, where members modify battery-powered ride-on vehicles to help disabled children with their rehab and physical therapy. The program also offers science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) training to underprivileged children from various participating Boys & Girls Clubs. A $5,000 grant to Summit View School will provide support to the school’s FIRST Robotics team. Through STEM-based activities, FIRST Robotics encourages collaboration and communication, team-building, and the development of skills in engineering, programming and electronics. “PPG is proud to support programs that provide young people with real-world experience in STEM-related fields, which are important for the advancement of the aerospace industry,” said Tim Behmlander, PPG GM, Aerospace, Americas. The PPG Foundation also recently donated an additional $20,000 to two organizations in Alabama on behalf of PPG’s Huntsville aerospace facility.
