Rigoberto Advincula to Deliver 2015 Keynote Address at ACA’s CoatingsTech Conference

The American Coatings Association (ACA) has announced that Dr. Rigoberto Advincula, a professor in the Department of Macromolecular Science & Engineering at Case Western University, will deliver the keynote address at ACA’s CoatingsTech Conference, March 9-11, 2015, at the Marriott Louisville Downtown in Louisville, Ky. The CoatingsTech Conference is the coatings industry’s leading technical event, and will embrace the theme, “Innovation! Infrastructure! Efficiency!”

Dr. Advincula’s research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of polymers and nanostructured materials capable of controlled assembly, tethering, and self-organization in ultrathin films and dispersions. His research also includes investigating nanoparticles, nanostructured surfaces, and nanocomposite materials for sensor and bioapplications. His other applied studies include packaging, coatings, biomaterials, plastics, and process development.

In addition to serving as a professor at Case Western, Dr. Advincula is also Associate Chair and Graduate Chair of the Department and Director of PETRO Case, a polymers for oil-gas consortium. He is Vice-Chair of the Polymer Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and previous President of the Philippine American Academy of Science and Engineering. He is also Trustee of the PhilDev Foundation.

Dr. Advincula is an editorial board member or an editor for some 10 active scientific journals and has published over 416 papers.

He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Florida. He completed his post-doctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research and Stanford University.

In addition to the keynote address, the CoatingsTech Conference will include the Mattiello Memorial Lecture, Technical Focus Lecture, Roon Award competition papers, Gordon Best Paper competition, and student poster presentations, and will feature a multi-track forum for all professionals in the coatings industry.

Leading the conference will be two informative Technology Short Courses, to be offered on Monday. In addition, tabletop exhibits held during the event will feature displays of the most recent innovations in products and services offered to the industry.
