Sun Chemical has launched a new black pearlescent pigment for plastics that will be on display at booth #4 during the 54th Annual Society of Plastics Engineers Color and Appearance Division’s CAD RETEC technical conference on September 11-13, 2016. The new black pearlescent pigment offers exceptional luster, sparkle and jetness compared to traditional commercially available black pearlescent pigments. It can be incorporated into many different plastics applications, such as rigid or flexible packaging with little reduction in the desired effect. “Perhaps the most sought after pearlescent color is black,” said Jonathan Doll, Leader-Effects Pigments Research, Sun Chemical Performance Pigments. “Black is one of the most popular colors in consumer products because it imparts a sense of quality and refinement. Despite this inherent demand, there are currently no truly black pearlescent pigments available on the market that show the sparkle that pearlescent pigments are known for. At Sun Chemical, we’re excited to introduce a new black pearl pigment that solves these challenges.” Sun Chemical’s new black pearl pigment provides the needed thermal stability required for plastics applications and is just as opaque as other pearlescent pigments. By increasing the load of Sun Chemical’s black pearl pigments, the shade of the plastics darkens and the sparkle effect can become more prominent. The new black pearl pigments work in a variety of polymers. Jonathan Doll will be presenting a paper during the conference – In Search of the Perfect Black Pearl – at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 12th in the Masters Ballroom of the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, near Jacksonville, Fla.
