The BASF site in Freeport, Texas, hosted a grand opening ceremony today for its first new plant to come online since 2007, adding a new product mix to the Freeport portfolio. The dispersions plant manufactures acrylic emulsion polymers that are for architectural coatings, construction chemicals, adhesives and applications in the paper chemicals industry. The new plant created 25 full time jobs and generated more than 500 contractor jobs during peak construction. BASF operates three other emulsion polymer plants throughout North America in Monaca, Pennsylvania; Chattanooga, Tennessee and Altamira, Mexico. Now, with the Freeport plant online, it will broaden the supply to help better serve all BASF customers in the central-southern United States. “Celebrating the official grand opening of a new plant in Freeport marks a major milestone for us. It demonstrates our commitment to producing quality products that add value to our customers, support our company and serve our community,” said Chris Witte, senior vice president and general manager of the BASF Freeport site. “It’s important to note that the plant was constructed safely and is running smoothly – thanks to our employees and contractors.”
