United Mineral and Chemical Corporation has announced the appointment of Michael Sansonetti Jr. as its new president, effective July 1, 2015. This comes after the announcement that UMC’s longtime president, A. Nurhan Becidyan would retire as of June 30, 2015. Sansonetti, who is currently in charge of the Pigments Division of UMC, joined the company 36 years ago from Asarco Corporation, as a salesman. In the mid 80’s he was promoted to be the manager of the pigments and chemicals groups of UMC. He has since grown the pigments division to be the second largest supplier of fluorescent pigments in North America. According to Becidyan, “His new position will be a positive for the company as he brings with him many years of pigment and chemical experience gained at UMC. His vast experience of dealing with many of our suppliers abroad and maintaining national contracts with North American customers is a great asset for us.” “The Board of UMC has given me a mandate,” said Sansonetti. “We are to continue our organic growth in the fields of color pigments, specialty colorants, ultra high purity metals, and industrial chemicals. We are looking to hire people and bring on new principals to supplement our current lines. Nurhan has done a superior job of growing UMC into what it is today and I’m looking forward to the challenge of keeping the company at the forefront of the fields we are noted for, as well as, moving into some new ones!” Sansonetti will work out of the UMC headquarters in Lyndhurst, NJ.
