SOLARBAN 90 glass by PPG was selected as one of the best products of 2015 by Architectural Record magazine, joining products from two leading PPG customers that also incorporate PPG glass. Solarban 90 solar control low-emissivity (low-e) glass, which was selected in the “Facades” category, is the latest advance in PPG’s proprietary triple-silver coating technology, combining industry-leading solar control performance with a true clear-glass appearance. Solarban 90 glass fulfills architect demands for a clear, neutral-reflective glass with exceptional solar control performance. In a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit with clear glass, Solarban 90 glass has a solar-heat-gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23, visible light transmittance (VLT) of 51 percent and a light-to-solar-gain (LSG) ratio of 2.22. It can be joined with STARPHIRE ULTRA-CLEAR glass to maximize clarity and with performance tinted glasses by PPG for expanded color selection. Starphire Ultra-Clear glass also is featured in a panel system developed by Pulp Studio, California Glass Bending and Belzberg Architects for the Gores Group headquarters in Beverly Hills, California. Selected as “Best in Category” for “Facades,” the panel system is comprised of a vacuumed layer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sandwiched between slabs of slumped, laminated Starphire Ultra-Clear glass. Together, the glasses give the renovated building a shimmering, multitextured surface that interacts with sunlight during the day and speckled LED lights at night. AVIPROTEK with Solarban glass, an advanced architectural glass that unites bird-friendly, acid-etched patterns by WALKER TEXTURES glass with high-performance solar control low-e glass by PPG, was selected as the “Editors’ Choice” in the “Facades” category. The glass is proven to reduce bird-building collisions by providing contrasting patterns that birds can see while in flight. A jury of three architects, two lighting designers and one interiors director—all based in New York City—selected the best new products of the year, choosing from hundreds of submitted entries. Products were rated according to innovation, usefulness and aesthetics.
