Sika Automotive announces its participation as headline sponsor at the Global Automotive Lightweight Material conference 2016 event, (GALM) in Birmingham, UK, April 26-28. Representing Sika’s sponsorship involvement with the ongoing GALM and GLMM series of 2016 Conferences, Dr. Nicolas Morel, Global Product Marketing Manager Assembly Line Adhesives & Sealants will present on the topic of “Innovative Joining Solutions of Multi-materials in Car Body Construction”. The constant challenges of car body lightweighting are being solved by the use of high strength steel, aluminum, magnesium and other non-traditional materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Working in parallel, new material joining products and systems must be developed and revised to enable the use of these materials in vehicles. Sika has been the innovation partner for automotive OEMs in developing joining solutions for car body engineering; SikaPower and Sikaflex adhesive products and SikaReinforcer structural inserts are proven technologies, assisting manufacturers in building lighter, stronger, safer, quieter, greener and better vehicles. Sika will feature its latest innovations in car body lightweighting. Highlights include Sikaflex- Ultra High Modulus one-component PUR for structural and crash resistant bonding of mixed material, in particular for bonding CFRP to aluminum in the non-conventional body shop; as well as Sikaflex- Ultra Low Modulus one-component PUR for roof panel stiffening and damping. The concurrent exhibit will also detail the success behind the current VW e-Golf where Sika’s High Strength Bonding solution, using SikaPower adhesive and SikaReinforcer structural inserts, was engineered and implemented to enable a weight saving of more than 2.5 kg per vehicle while still fulfilling the most demanding crash requirements. The 2016 Global Automotive Lightweight Material conference brings together technical experts and key stakeholders of the automotive industry, including OEMs like Audi, BMW, Daimler AG, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Opel and Volkswagen. Sika will additionally present all automotive technologies in its booth during the three-day event.
