Brenntag has published its 2016 Sustainability Report. In this report, the company documents its activities and achievements in the areas of safety, environmental protection, supply chain responsibility, employees and social involvement. In the 2015 reporting year, Brenntag continued to develop its sustainability strategy in a targeted manner and drew up global targets for its key subject areas for the first time. The depth and quality of reporting were once again improved on the previous year, and the format was changed over to the G4 guidelines of the internationally recognized “Global Reporting Initiative” (GRI). Steven Holland, Chief Executive Officer of Brenntag AG, comments: “We continue to improve and develop sustainability as a core value within our company. It is our aim to contribute to greater sustainability across the diverse sections of industries we serve recognizing our central position in the supply chain. We made important progress in 2015 with increasing transparency and active engagement with all stakeholders.” The Brenntag Group’s fundamental approaches, organizational structures and processes for managing sustainability issues are presented in the current report. Numerous examples from the operating units provide an insight into practical operations and show how sustainability is implemented in Brenntag’s regions worldwide. In 2015, Brenntag developed a Group-wide program to achieve global transparency in relation to its own energy consumption and identifying potential energy and CO2 savings. As a member of the chemical industry’s “Together for Sustainability“ initiative (TfS), for the first time the company requested around 200 of its suppliers to undergo sustainability assessments as a basis for an evaluation of their sustainability performance. Common objective of all TfS members is to establish a uniform global audit program for responsible procurement of goods and services in the chemical industry and to improve ecological and social standards in the supply chain. Safety is a top priority at Brenntag and is thus a core focus in this report. Worldwide the company operates in accordance with the “Safety First” principle and the Group has a strongly developed sense of safety awareness. In the reporting year, Brenntag has once again achieved a reduction in the Group accident rate. However, the company is not content to rest on its laurels. In 2015, Brenntag consulted its employees on the issues of occupational health and safety and launched a global initiative which is intended to deliver continual improvements in the Group’s safety culture.
