MB Aerospace Acquires Vac Aero (Poland) to Expand Position in Thermal Spray Coatings Market

MB Aerospace, a major player in the global thermal spray coatings market has recently acquired Vac Aero (Poland) which is the Poland wing of Vac Aero International, a Canada based firm. Financial details of the acquisition are undisclosed. This move is expected to further strengthen MB Aerospace’s position as a performance enhancing coatings supplier in the European thermal spray coating market.

Vac Aero (Poland) has two site offices at Kalisz and Rzeszow, with the workforce of over 100 employees combined. Both sites specialize in providing protective coatings for industrial gas turbine components and aero engines. Advantages of the high performance coatings include wear protection, heat and corrosion resistance for the compressor as well as combustor and turbine components.

MB Aerospace stated that operation at the two sites will remain as is and will be rebranded as MB Aerospace Technologies (Poland). They will continue to provide support to the current customer base and in increasing business in Eastern Europe. MB Aerospace also stated that the company plans to invest in the business with specialized focus on surface coating services, which include plasma and thermal coatings, heat treatment, brazing processes, and other range of paint capabilities.

Vac Aero (Poland) was founded in 2003 by the parent company Vac Aero International, based in Canada. The company has since been instrumental in developing a range of special process capabilities that include vacuum brazing, heat treatment, vacuum carburizing, high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) protective coating, air plasma spray, and corrosion and oxidation resistant paint coatings, among others. The company previously had majority customer approvals and will continue to serve their key customers in Europe which include Siemens, UTC, and Pratt & Whitney.

Recently Persistence Market Research has published a new report, “Global Market Study on Thermal Spray Coatings: Industry Analysis and Forecast, 2016–2024.” The report states, globally the thermal spray coatings market is expected to reach the value of US$ 7.6 Bn at the end of 2016, with a 5.6% Y-o-Y growth over the previous year. Europe and North America are the leading regions, accounting to over 50% of the market revenue share combined in 2016.
