Manchester based HMG Paints Ltd is continuing its successful apprenticeship program by recruiting a cohort of new faces. After recent success, which saw nine apprentices complete the program and become full time members of staff at HMG just last year, the firm have recruited another cohort of enthusiastic mentees. HMG Paints is the UK’s largest independent paint manufacturer and encouraging personal development has always been fundamental to HMG’s culture and growth. From Laboratory apprentices to trainee Accountants, HMG’s apprenticeship roles cover a whole variety of business areas including business administration, research and development and product manufacturing. Alongside Trafford College, The Skills Company and Oldham College the six apprentices will be putting their theory, from courses such as NVQ’s and BTEC’s in Applied Sciences, in to practice at HMG Paints’ Headquarters. Newly appointed Trainee Accountant Lewis Whalen decided to apply for a role at HMG Paints after graduating HMG’s Future Entrepreneurship Partnership program with The Manchester Communication Academy. Lewis began a two year program in 2013 which saw eight students from Manchester Communication Academy aged between 14 and 16 visit HMG Paints on a weekly basis to receive hands on experience of working within the coatings industry. “My time at HMG during school gave me a great understanding of the different departments within the company which led to my interest in accountancy. After my experience at HMG I decided to apply for a role in accountancy after leaving school and I am hoping to gain qualifications and real work experience out of working here.” said Lewis, who will be completing his level 4 accountancy at Oldham College alongside his work at HMG. HMG Paints’ Managing Director, John Falder, is pleased about the ongoing success of the Apprenticeship scheme “The future of HMG is in the hands of the young staff who are currently gaining their experience from our staff members who have been here for decades. We have full faith in them and look forward to guiding them through the process” said John Falder.
