IFS Coatings has announced that the IFS Coatings Architectural Series now has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for each product in the range.
An EPD is an internationally recognized and standardized document, based on a life cycle assessment, that is used to communicate information about the potential environmental and human health impacts of a product . Similar to a nutritional label, an EPD states product ingredients and their impact across the entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
IFS 300SP, IFS 400SD powder coatings, and IFS 500FP high performance powder coatings have all achieved an EPD.
Glynn Mason, IFS Coatings President, explains, “We recognize that environmentally responsible design is increasingly important and we truly believe our architectural range offers architects and designers the environmentally responsible coatings choice. We are proud to have the scientific data to back this up.”
Mason continues, “Using IFS Coatings high performance powder coatings on architectural projects not only offers outstanding protection in a vast range of colors and effects, but allows design professionals to specify our coatings knowing they have made the environmentally responsible choice without compromising on performance.”
IFS coatings architectural range boasts an abundance of environmental advantages including no or low VOCs, no toxic compounds, no toxic landfill created in manufacture or application and the ability to reclaim, recycle and reuse the powder.
Mason finishes, “IFS is genuinely committed to being the environmentally responsible choice; we choose not to manufacture liquid coatings for this reason. Investing in our EPDs has provided us with third party verified scientific information on our architectural products’ environmental credentials. It enables design professionals to obtain LEED credits through the LEED material resources credit for Building Product Disclosure and Optimization, and of course proves our commitment to being the environmentally responsible choice. It’s in our Mission Statement. It’s what we do.”
IFS Coatings EPDs meet the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED V4 Green Building Rating System under the Material Resources credit for Building Product Disclosure and Optimization. The IFS Coatings EPDs also meet the requirements of other green building ratings programs such BREAM and WELL.
