Sun Chemical’s Performance Pigments and Advanced Materials divisions will showcase its latest pigment and resin technology from DIC during the European Coatings Show 2017. Visitors of Sun Chemical’s booth located in Hall 4 Stand 4-353, will be introduced to VOC-free aluminum preparations, architectural decorative coatings that meet the most stringent environmental regulations, vacuum metalized pigments for automotive plastic interiors, and epoxy resins combined with zinc flake pigments that provide superior anti-corrosion properties. “The European Coatings Show is a significant event for Sun Chemical and we hope to demonstrate how our full range of tailor made resins and pigments can help customers and prospective customers achieve excellent results with any coatings application,” said Michael T. Venturini, Marketing Director, Coatings, Sun Chemical. “We look forward to interacting face-to-face with a much broader global customer base and learning what needs and requirements they are looking for with both their resins and pigments.” Sun Chemical’s Benda-Lutz COMPAL WS, a range of highly concentrated, VOC-free aluminum preparations for inks and coatings, will be on display in Hall 4 Stand 4-353. Designed for long term gassing stability in aqueous environments, COMPAL WS can be used in both water- or solvent-based systems, providing maximum formulation flexibility. Each grade of COMPAL WS preparations is delivered in an easily dispersible granular form for safe and easy handling, improved shelf stability, and numerous other advantages in transport. The subject of COMPAL WS will be one of three technical papers delivered at the show. Dieter Großschartner, Head of R&D Metallic Pigments at Sun Chemical, will present Highly Versatile Aluminum Flake for Water, Solvent and Ultra-Low VOC Coatings and Inks on April 3, 2017 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. during “Session 2 for Pigments.” Ryo Maeda of the Polymer Technical Group at DIC Corporation will present Functionalized Hybrid Water-Based Polyurethane Dispersions on April 3, 2017 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. during “Session 4 for Waterborne Coatings.” Akio Umino, Synthesis Technical Division at DIC Corporation will deliver a paper called Development of Heat Resistant, Ultra-Smooth UV Curable Alkyd Primers for Physical Vapor Deposition, on April 3, 2017 from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. during “Session 12 for Radiation Curing.” Sun Chemical’s newest Azo yellow pigment, Sunbrite Yellow 74, for architectural coatings was developed specifically for architectural decorative coatings producers and the needs of machine colorants. Easier to disperse than previous grades, Sunbrite Yellow 74 delivers 15 to 20 percent more tint strength than comparable products and meets the most stringent environmental regulations in Europe. It has been quickly adopted because of its color point for existing and new VOC-free colorant systems. For premium mirror-like coatings, Benda-Lutz SPLENDAL offers four unique, microscopically-thin aluminum platelet suspensions produced via physical vapor deposition. These vacuum metallized pigments range from a brilliant clean “white” to intense dark chrome reflections and are available in multiple solvents for almost every coating application. The SPLENDAL pigment range finds widespread application for premium consumer electronics, automotive interiors, and automotive wheels. Booth visitors will learn how SPLENDAL vacuum metalized flakes can be formulated with DIC’s acrylic resins to produce luxurious finishes for plastics which meet the most demanding chemical resistance specifications for automotive interiors. A best-in-class solventborne acrylic polyol, DIC Acrylic WPU-349 exhibits outstanding adhesion to ABS and polycarbonate, and provides automotive interior coatings with superior DEET and sunscreen resistance. With difunctional, trifunctional and tetrafunctional varieties, EPICLON epoxy resins impart high-performance composites with unmatched heat and water resistance, toughness and excellent adhesion. Booth visitors will learn why DIC’s EPICLON epoxy resins are ideal for major applications in the aerospace, automotive, electronics, tooling and adhesives industries. When mixed with waterborne epoxy resins, zinc flake pigments can often provide superior corrosion protection. Sun Chemical’s Benda-Lutz ZINC provides the cathodic protection of zinc in a platelet form allowing for coatings with thinner film thicknesses and reduced settling. Flake geometry also provides excellent long term barrier protection and gives finished coatings a smooth, unique metallic appearance.
