At European Coatings Show 2017, the world’s leading minerals producer, Imerys, will be presenting its latest mineral-based developments for sustainable architectural paints and industrial coatings (Hall 7; stand 333).
SteaShield 10 is a brand new ultra-lamellar talc specifically designed for stain blocking paints and barrier coatings. The high specific surface area of SteaShieldTM 10 creates a physical barrier which protects the paint substrate. Used at 8 to 15wt% in the formulation, SteaShieldTM 10 reinforces blocking properties of decorative paints and corrosion resistance in barrier coatings. In addition to its stain blocking properties SteaShieldTM 10 also significantly enhances opacity and provides good brightness. SteaShieldTM 10 is the most lamellar talc grade available to coatings formulators today.
Extra M100 is a new talc development designed for decorative resin-based plasters and paints. Extra M100 is a natural, high purity, macro-lamellar talc. Extra M100’s coarse grind and extreme lamellarity prevents the capillary effect, thereby reducing pinholes. It also acts as an anti-cracking agent in resin-based plasters. Extra M100 is also recommended for interior and exterior decorative wall paints where it improves anti- cracking, and supports matting and scrub resistance.
NYAD wollastonite is a natural calcium metasilicate. Its low oil absorption and unique acicular morphology make it an ideal extender for high performance low VOC coatings. NYAD also improves mechanical properties, flexibility and impact resistance. It reduces cracking and checking and supports adhesion and wet adhesion. NYAD enables the service life of coatings to be significantly increased.
Opacilite can extend titanium dioxide by up to 20% in high quality decorative paints compared to standard calcined kaolins. It provides durability and exceptional opacity both above and below the CPVC of a coating. OpaciliteTM gives a unique balance of opacity, matting and scrub resistance. Its combination of internal and external void structure, can provide significant increased opacity (dry hiding) whilst maintaining good matting and mechanical performance.
NeoGen MX is an engineered calcined kaolin designed to provide excellent optical performance in matt decorative paints. The irregular structure and particle size distribution of NeoGen MX lies behind its unique combination of properties, designed to allow formulators to achieve optimal opacity and whiteness while maintaining excellent scrub resistance in matt decorative paints.
ImerPrint 07K is a fine kaolin, specifically designed to be used in offset inks and to optimise formulation cost without compromising print quality. The use of ImerPrintTM 07K in lithographic inks gives good print performance and colour strength at high kaolin addition levels. ImerPrintTM 07K improves ink mileage and provides good pigment efficiency. IT also reduces ink penetration into paper fibres, resulting in better ink holdout onto the paper surface and reduced strike-through.
PlastGard is a new engineered Alumino-Silicate additive for interior or exterior applications. It has been specially developed to provide ultimate crack and pin-holing resistance in resin-based plasters and renders. Using Imerys specialist processing technologies, PlastGardTM has a controlled particle size and morphology allowing exceptional performance at low addition levels.
