The Dow Chemical Co. said this week that the company will move its silicones, sealants and adhesives plant in Greensboro to a manufacturing site in Midland, Mich., with plans to hire 140 employees.
Midland-Mich.-based Dow announced last year it would close the plant at 2914 Patterson St. in Greensboro and lay off 130 positions as part of a cost-cutting move to help the company realize $500 million in annual savings. Moving the plant from Greensboro to Midland will allow Dow to "foster the integration of Dow and Dow Corning assets, materials and talent across the collective site," the company said. Additional manufacturing assets in Greensboro will be integrated throughout the Midland facility. The company said it is also hiring 80 chemical process operators and 60 logistics technicians positions for its Michigan operations.
"Leaders chose Midland because of our talented work force, an outstanding safety culture, proximity to other processes related to silicone development and competitive incentives from the state of Michigan," said Rich Wells, site director of Dow's Michigan operations and vice president of operations for Canada and US North.
Dow told Triad Business Journal a year ago that the company planned to move plant operations from Greensboro to another North American location but did not disclose the specific site.
