BASF will join the fight against hunger with a $75,000 donation to Feeding America’s National Produce Program. In addition, the company’s North American Crop Protection employees in the U.S. will host a virtual food drive throughout the month of September to support local food banks during Hunger Action Month.
Feeding America established the National Produce Program to increase the organization’s capacity to handle fresh foods. The program provides healthy and nutrient-rich foods to those who are in need, particularly in rural areas where fresh produce is not as abundant. On average, the program distributes over two million pounds of fresh produce each week to its network of food banks.
“One in eight people and one in six children struggle with hunger across the U.S.,” said Paul Rea, Senior Vice President, BASF Crop Protection North America. “That’s one too many. This donation will help families receive the healthy meals they need. BASF is committed to partnering with organizations like Feeding America to find solutions that eliminate hunger and its root causes.”
To help support the company’s hunger relief efforts, BASF employees throughout its Crop Protection division will participate in a virtual food drive, by making financial contributions online. All funds raised online will be donated to Feeding America food banks based on donor zip codes. This gives employee donors the opportunity to help their own communities and make an impact where they live. BASF invites the community to participate in the drive and make donations at www.feedingamerica.org/basf.
