TOTAL Cray Valley (TCV) will be presenting a new method to improve melt strength of polypropylene (PP) at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoplastic Polyolefins (TPOs) Conference.
The event will take place in Troy, Mich. on Oct. 1-4.
TCV applications chemist Brett Robb will present as part of the Additives & Modifiers track on Oct. 3 at 10:45 a.m. He will discuss the development of Dymalink 9200, a polar zinc salt that can be added to conventional PP to provide very high melt strength behavior, even at very low loadings. Adding Dymalink 9200 to standard PP compounds enables them to be used in applications where melt stretching or drawing are critical such as foam molding, blow molding, thermoforming or pipe extrusion.
Dymalink 9200 reacts with aliphatic polymers to create a C-C link. Within the polymer, the zinc salts assemble into ionic clusters that offer unique dynamic networks.
