BASF, with its diversified portfolio of solutions for the coating industry, will present technologies at the International Exhibition of Coating Suppliers - ABRAFATI 2017, that combine sustainability, innovation and high performance. The meeting will be held from October 3 - 5, at São Paulo Expo, in the city of São Paulo. "This is an excellent opportunity to introduce BASF's solutions and expertise in the development of raw materials and innovations for the production of coatings, in addition to being closer to our partners and jointly fostering new business," says Antonio Lacerda, responsible for Chemicals and Performance Products in South America.
BASF will also take part in the International Congress on Coatings, carried out in parallel, taking its expertise in topics such as environmental impacts, Life Cycle Assessment, coatings specifications, pigment replacement, compliance with technical standards, among others. At the Poster Session, the company will present materials on color stability, Organizational Life Cycle Analysis, and two works carried out by Fundação Espaço Espaço ECO® (FEE®), addressing sustainability in the industry.
Coatings & Construction
The main launch of BASF's Dispersions and Resins business for the Coatings & Construction segment is the Acronal 1773, a special and elastomeric acrylic dispersion with differentiated monomers. It is an APEOfree dispersion, with no formaldehyde content that provides high film elasticity and very low yellowing, to an excellent cost-performance. Furthermore, innovative and optimized solutions will be presented in the lines of rheological agents for decorative paints, dispersions for road signs and signals, new light stabilizers, among other novelties that focus on offering better value for money.
BASF Kaolin, the world leader in calcined kaolin, is launching Ultrex® HP, a new generation of high performance optical extenders. From the development of a new treatment technology, BASF has obtained a pigment extender with high brightness, which offers improved optical properties in paints and coatings, including extremely high opacity and tint strength. Ultrex HP can be used in various formulations of coatings and it is particularly suitable for matte and satin coatings. Its high brightness results in whiter decorative paints and bases that provide cleaner colors.
Specialty Monomers
BASF is starting to offer BEPEGMA 1100 (Behenyl Polyethyleneglycol Methacrylate 1100) and SPEGMA 1100 (Stearyl Polyethyleneglycol Methacrylate 1100) as well as tBA (tert-Butyl Acrylate) in South America, supplied from the companies’ global supply network. BEPEGMA 1100 and SPEGMA 1100 are used in the manufacturing of associative acrylic thickeners, while tBA is applied in the formulation of dispersions and acrylic emulsions for premium architectural coatings. BASF offers a wide range of high-quality specialty monomers, as well as technical support, contributing to cost-performance benefits in formulations, thus improving our customers’ competitiveness. Standard Acrylic Monomers (BA, GAA, 2EHA, EA, MA) will also be presented at the event.
Formulation technologies
BASF uses its expertise to offer products for emulsion polymerization with high performance and quality. BASF's surfactants and additives used during this production process are essential to avoid manufacturing problems, increase post-polymerization stability and further optimize application performance. At ABRAFATI, the emphasis will be on the Disponil® line of emulsifiers, a portfolio focused on manufacturing coating resins and APEOfree solutions.
Colors & Effects pigments
BASF's global pigment brand, Colors & Effects, will be showcasing some recent releases that ensure high chromaticity in their applications. The new high-performance inorganic pigment red Sicopal® Red EH 2370 (L 3050) is the most innovative in its category and has a new Color Index, Pigment Red 290. It is a robust pigment with more design options while presenting excellent opacity, remarkable stability in addition to longer durability. Other innovations include the organic pigment Irgazin® Scarlet EH 2096, for industrial and decorative applications, the Paliocrom® Brilliant Red EH 1000 aluminum effect pigment, which is specific to automotive coatings, and the Lumina® Royal Dragon Gold effect pigment, for new hues of greenish gold, with exceptional brilliance and gloss in industrial, decorative and automotive applications. Another important highlight are cool pigments, functional pigments that prevent unwanted heating of dark tones, being able to reduce to half the sunlight effect.
