During the European Coatings Show 2019, Sun Chemical Performance Pigments will introduce its new Palomar Blue 15 248-4848, a high strength phthalocyanine blue pigment specifically developed for automotive OEM applications.
Designed to have a highly desirable neutral flop color in metallic coatings, the new Palomar Blue 15 248-4848 is non-flocculating, non-crystalizing and has excellent rheological and lightfastness characteristics. The patented technology allows formulators to replace the retiring Blue 15:1 pigments.
This new development coincides with the expansion and upgrade of DIC Corporation’s phthalocyanine plant in Karawang, Indonesia. The investment is a response to changes in market conditions and brings manufacturing of key raw materials in-house to ensure uninterrupted supply of key pigments. Among them is Palomar Blue 15:1 248-4816, the industry standard for neutral flop organic pigment.
“The increase in production capacity and our expanded Palomar product line is another example of how Sun Chemical responds to market needs and offers solutions tailor-made for our customers,” said Michael Venturini, marketing director, Coatings, Sun Chemical Performance Pigments. “It demonstrates Sun Chemical and DIC Corporation’s technology leadership and ongoing commitment to our customers in delivering an uninterrupted supply of strategic high-quality blue pigments. We’re pleased to take the uncertainty out of the marketplace when it comes to the highly desired non-flop blues.”
