Axalta congratulates the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team on becoming the 2020 FIA Formula One World Constructors’ Champions, which was secured at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on 1 November 2020 in Imola, Italy.
This is the seventh consecutive Constructors’ title the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has won, making history by setting a new world record for the most consecutive Constructors’ Championships ever to be won by a team in the sport.
On Nov. 15, 2020 at the Turkish Grand Prix, driver Lewis Hamilton also secured his seventh FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Championship title*.
This win means Hamilton is only the second driver in the sport’s history to become a seven-time World Champion equalling Michael Schumacher’s impressive tally. It also makes the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team the first in the history of the sport to win both titles seven times in a row.
"As an Official Team Supplier for more than seven years, it is incredible to be part of such an historic achievement," said Yves Kerstens, president of Axalta EMEA. "The Formula One World Championships truly display how exceptional teamwork coupled with a deep commitment to technology and continuous innovation, fuels unparalleled, collective success. These are some of the same core values fundamental to the Axalta team, and focusing on them helps us to drive performance in the industries in which we operate. On behalf of everyone at Axalta, I would like to congratulate the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and Lewis Hamilton on these historic wins.”
For more than seven years, Axalta’s premium global refinish brand Spies Hecker has been used to paint the team’s Silver Arrows race cars, including this year’s Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance, which has run an all-black livery for the 2020 season.
