Geoff Mackrill was awarded the coatings industry’s highest honor, the Silver Medal, at the British Coatings Federation Conference in Derby on May 25th.

Mackrill took over the running of his family business, Teal and Mackrill, in Hull in 1999. He has been active within the BCF since the early 2000s and has led BCF’s campaigning with government departments on several key issues – most notably defending the use of anti-fouling coatings for the marine sector with HSE and Defra. 

Serving on the BCF Board of Directors since 2002, Mackrill also currently holds the chair of the BCF Marine Coatings Group, a position he has held for the last five years. On top of this, he spent six years representing the UK paints industry in Europe as a board member of CEPE, the European coatings association. Mackrill helped ensure BCF maintained its seat at the table, facilitating the British Coatings industry to be represented within Europe post-Brexit.

“Geoff exemplifies the commitment to the industry that the Silver Medal was developed to recognize,” said Tom Bowtell, chief executive of the British Coatings Federation, commented: “He has been a prominent figure in the coatings industry both in the UK and Europe and is a huge advocate for the BCF. We would like to thank Geoff for his support and expertise throughout the years and congratulate him on this very much deserved accolade.” 

The BCF Silver Medal was instigated by Leslie Silver OBE, founder of Silver Paint and Lacquer, upon his retirement in 1980. The Silver Medal recognizes those who provide outstanding service and an exceptional contribution to the paints, coatings, printing ink and wallcovering industries’ growth and reputation.
