Sherwin-Williams Wins Notable Vaaler Award for Heat-Flex Coatings

Sherwin-Williams’ new line of Heat-Flex CUI-mitigation coatings from its Protective & Marine line has earned the Vaaler Award from Chemical Processing for its ability to mitigate corrosion under insulation (CUI). 
 
Heat-Flex ACE (Advanced CUI Epoxy) is the best performing coating formulation for mitigating CUI in a variety of tests. Heat-Flex 650, Heat-Flex 750, and Heat-Flex 1200 Plus contain a high concentration of micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigment to significantly improve CUI-mitigation performance, compared to similar formulas. 
 
“CUI is a lurking danger in any petrochemical plant that could potentially lead to catastrophic events,” said global product director Neil Wilds. “In the interst of safety, we’re constantly looking for new ways to address the problem and have developed surprisingly effective options with the new range of Heat-Flex CUI-mitigation coatings. Chemical Processing has been awarding the Vaaler Awards biennially for more than 50 years. Winners are decided through an independent panel of judges from the chemical industry, companies are judged based on the significance of their contribution to the chemical plant operations and their uniqueness and breadth of application.
