AkzoNobel has launched the Selva Pro range of 2K polyurethane and acrylic coatings systems for the professional and industrial woodworking community. The systems, which will be part of the Chemcraft® wood coatings product portfolio, draw inspiration from the rich heritage and craftsmanship of trusted, Italian-inspired formulations. The Selva Pro range is backed by decades of industry expertise and research and development to provide proven, well-rounded performance for drying time, sanding, hardness, chemical resistance and potlife. All elements of the new systems are being manufactured in modern, North American facilities using high-quality raw materials and following stringent standards for quality assurance.
The Selva Pro range comprises three systems and provides a complete spectrum of sheens, from high gloss to dead flat, and offers limitless color possibilities for the most creative imaginations. Selva Pro Chiaro and Selva Pro Bianco are both high-build, high-solids, clear and pigmented 2K polyurethane systems which provide robust protection for wood against wear and moisture and are ideal for areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Durable yet soft to touch, both Chiaro and Bianco are formaldehyde-free formulas with minimal odor. They share the same hardener, with a consistent 2:1 mix ratio to further reduce complexity for the user. Selva Pro Bianco also offers unlimited color opportunities and excellent tinting stability (when using a neutral base), especially with lower sheen finishes. The third system, Selva Pro Acrilico, is a 2K acrylic system. Its smooth formulation enhances wood grain and is ideal for expressive and/or high-quality wood-types. Acrilico comes with multiple finish options: a pigmented topcoat; a neutral topcoat; a clear topcoat; and a clear ‘Naturale’ topcoat which has a modern dead flat finish inspired by the latest trends. As with Selva Pro Bianco, the Acrilico neutral topcoat, when used with a neutral base, offers excellent tinting stability. The range is being launched with a compact selection of hardeners and simple, consistent mix ratios which will ensure streamlined inventory, easy training and accurate application. Bilal Salahudin, Regional Commercial Director, Finishes Americas, believes the Selva Pro range will be transformative for the woodworking community: “Meticulous development and comprehensive testing have resulted in exceptional, well-rounded performance and a range that is easy to use and achieves beautiful results.” he says. “With Italian-inspired formulations, made locally and readily available across North America via our extensive distributor network, we expect it to become the ultimate choice for craftsmen and manufacturers alike.” Sarah Skinner, Product Marketing Director, Wood Finishes, says the launch of the Selva Pro systems will ease many of the current challenges that end users are experiencing: “The compact selection of hardeners within the Selva Pro range, and the simple, consistent mix ratios means inventory management is streamlined, product training is easy, and the application is accurate and reliable,” she says. “With a large database of colors, coupled with our color technology tools, including proprietary color software – MaestroHue – and compatible equipment, end users have access to any color imaginable, along with color accuracy with a quick turnaround via our networks. Our Selva Pro product cans have been designed to be fully compatible with standard paint shakers, making it one of the few polyurethane ranges currently available that can be conveniently mixed using standard paint shakers,” she says. The systems provide substantial protection, longevity, beauty and design freedom so they are ideal for multiple uses, from commercial applications such as architectural millwork and retail store fitouts to residential projects such as kitchens and bathrooms. They are also ideal solutions for applications ranging from yacht interiors to musical instruments, hockey sticks to pool cues. Selva Pro coatings will be readily available through the Chemcraft network of knowledgeable and experienced local distributors who, with the support of the Chemcraft team, pride themselves on the quality of the technical advice they can provide end-users.
