BASF sites in South Carolina have joined together to sponsor and volunteer at the iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Festival, providing children of all ages an opportunity to learn about chemistry through experiments and demonstrations. The iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Festival is designed to showcase PreK-12 education and create pathways in science, technology, arts, engineering and mathematics (STEAM) through fun, hands-on learning for families. iMAGINE is a program of South Carolina’s Coalition for Mathematics and Science at Clemson University. Members of BASF’s team from the Central (Clemson), Mauldin, Seneca, and White Stone (Spartanburg) sites were present to guide children through hands-on experiments. They taught the kids how chemistry impacts the world around them while also exposing them to potential STEAM career pathways. “We’re proud to support the iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Festival which gives us an opportunity to engage with our community and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators,” said Gerald Murphy, BASF Site Director at Mauldin and White Stone. “By bringing chemistry to life through hands-on experiments and demonstrations, we hope to ignite a passion for STEAM education in children of all ages.” BASF’s South Carolina sites employ approximately 750 people and invest nearly $85 million in the state through annual payroll, purchases, investments, taxes and charitable contributes. The BASF sites in South Carolina produce materials that are vital to the sustainability of our economy and quality of life. Employees are committed to producing safe, clean and reliable products that are essential ingredients in many consumer items used in homes around the world every day.
