Back in 1980, a group of volunteers in the Phoenix, AZ area came together to help a seven-year-old named Christopher James Greicius, who was battling leukemia. He had wanted to become a police officer, and the volunteers ensured that his dream would come true.

From these beginnings, Make-A-Wish was formed. For 45 years, Make-A-Wish has been granting wishes for children and families. Worldwide, Make-A-Wish has granted an astounding total of 615,000 wishes and counting.

Many times, the wish might come in the form of an ailing child wishing to meet a hero, or work on a certain type of job he or she has dreamed about. Maybe it is a vacation to Disney or seeing a game. Maybe it is having a place to rest and relax or to play, and this is where Benjamin Moore helps out.

A leader in paint and coatings, Benjamin Moore is a national partner, donating money, paint and volunteering to help children’s dreams come true. Benjamin Moore will donate $300,000 over two years along with paint and supplies to support room transformations across communities in North America and seek to unite its network of professional painting contractors, interior designers, independent retailers and employee volunteers to help where possible.

Benjamin Moore will also feature Make-A-Wish on co-branded stir sticks available at participating local retailers nationwide, and will partner with Make-A-Wish on digital content across the Benjamin Moore website and social media channels.

“Room renovations are a popular wish request as wish kids often want a space where they can seek refuge and comfort in the midst of their fight against a critical illness,” said Jared Perry, chief revenue officer at Make-A-Wish America. “The partnership with Benjamin Moore will not only enable us to execute these wishes with excellence, but it will also help us raise the money needed to deliver joy when it’s needed most to more wish kids around the country.”

Rachel Willard-Chang, senior manager, engagement, inclusion + social impact at Benjamin Moore, said that the idea of creating room makeovers is a perfect fit.

“Benjamin Moore is honored to collaborate with Make-A-Wish in granting life-changing wishes for children fighting critical illnesses,” said Willard-Chang. “We believe in creating safe, inclusive and accessible spaces that comfort and spark joy. From our first conversation with Make-A-Wish, we knew that the organization was the ideal partner for us, especially with room makeovers being among the most popular wishes.

“Since the beginning of this year, Benjamin Moore has helped fulfill more than 35 wishes – including Addalynn, age 9, who had her backyard transformed into a charming schoolhouse retreat to focus on her studies after being homeschooled due to her cancer diagnosis – with many more in progress for the duration of the partnership,” Willard-Chang said.

Willard-Chang notes that requests come through local Make-A-Wish chapters, and Benjamin Moore’s goal is to support as many wishes as possible that come to them, through paint donations, volunteers or color selection.

“We are excited to continue to build this partnership and uplift communities across the country,” Willard-Chang concluded. “We’ve heard stories from many of our stakeholders – whether they were a wish family, know a wish family or volunteered with Make-A-Wish – and connected our employee volunteers, painting contractors, designers and independent retailers to some of the wishes we’ve already helped fulfill.”
