The Color Pigments Manufacturers Association (CPMA) heard from several industry leaders on issues important to its membership, honored its outgoing President, and shared key regulatory and advocacy accomplishments from the year at its 86th Annual Meeting on December 8, 2015, at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan in New York. Dr. Heike Liewald, Executive Director of EUROCOLOUR, discussed regulatory challenges facing pigment manufacturers in Europe, and Dale Pritchett, Group Publisher of Rodman Media, shared top stories in 2015 from the coatings and inks market. Bill Allmond, Vice President of Government Relations at the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA), shared an update on Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reform, and SOCMA President and CEO Lawrence D. Sloan discussed CPMA’s relationship with SOCMA. Highlighting the event, CPMA recognized Mary Ellen Maxwell of Clariant, a longtime board member and CPMA President (2013-2015), for her many years of service and leadership. As she reflected on her last few years as CPMA President in a mock interview with Pritchett during the meeting, she said the organization is now “more member-driven, modern and streamlined” than ever before. John Marten of Shepherd Color will succeed Maxwell as CPMA President. In looking back on the past year, CPMA reported many accomplishments. In 2015, the association: • Testified before the U.S. International Trade Commission. • Participated in a corporate sustainability panel at the Environmental Council of States fall meeting. • Represented the industry in U.S.-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council Chemicals Management activities. • Actively participated in the nanomaterials definition debate in North America • Advocated for TSCA reform. • Provided members with guidance for successful compliance with new Occupational Safety and Health Administration Globally Harmonized System labelling regulations. • Participated in the National Association for Printing Ink Manufacturers annual conference. To wrap up the event, the CPMA Board discussed goals and regulatory challenges for 2016.
