PPG announced environmental product declaration (EPD) verification for 15 formulas from the PPG TOP GUN architectural sealants product line. PPG Top Gun is one of the first sealants in North America to publish a building and construction sealant EPD that is certified by the global public health organization NSF International.
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive, internationally-harmonized report that documents the ways in which a product, throughout its lifecycle, affects the environment. EPDs contribute to the transformation of green building initiatives, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v4, by enabling purchasing decisions built on science-based environmental information. LEED v4 encourages the use of building materials for which life cycle information is available and that have environmentally, economically, and socially preferable life cycle impacts.
“At PPG, we know how important it is to develop products that help our customers achieve environmental certifications,” said Michael Provenzano, PPG marketing manager, adhesives and sealants. “PPG is dedicated to helping professionals in the commercial building industry reduce their carbon footprint and meet green building rating requirements such as LEED v4, by offering an environmentally friendly product portfolio of not only paints and stains, but now 15 sealant formulas.”
Top Gun sealants are ideal for a variety of interior and exterior applications on many types of building surfaces. Each Top Gun product delivers a high level of performance for a wide range of applications and meets ASTM standards, which are used worldwide to improve product quality, enhance safety and facilitate trade.
Top Gun 200XI sealant is a premium grade, elastomeric acrylic sealant that forms a durable, flexible, airtight and weather-resistant seal, offering exceptional protection from environmental conditions. Designed to be used on some of the most extreme applications, Top Gun 200XI sealant flows smoothly, is easy to apply, offers good paintability and resists rust bleed-through. This product exceeds ASTM C-834 conformance standards and is available in white, clear and eight other colors.
Top Gun 300 sealant is a premium grade sealant that forms a flexible, durable, airtight and water-resistant seal. It offers exceptional protection from environmental conditions and features high stretchability and superior recovery. Top Gun 300 sealant is designed for use on some of the most difficult applications, such as crown molding, baseboards, drywall and glass. This product exceeds ASTM C920, Class 12.5 conformance standards and is available in white.
Top Gun 400 elastomeric acrylic urethane sealant is made with DuPont Kevlar for exceptional strength and durability. This premium technology has exceptional adhesion to most building substrates with greater than 800 percent elongation. The internally plasticized sealant reduces dirt pickup, eliminates yellowing, protects against protruding nails and forms a permanently flexible, airtight and water-resistant seal, offering exceptional protection from environmental conditions. Top Gun 400 sealant exceeds ASTM C-920, Class 25 conformance standards and is available in white, clear, bronze and stone.
