AkzoNobel Expands Powder Coating Range

AkzoNobel has taken its innovative super durable powder coating that can be applied to a metal surface and bent without cracking and gone a step further – by extending the range and enabling architects to imagine even greater creations.

Interpon Flex was the first to market in combining the weatherability of super durable coatings with the mechanical performance advantages of a ‘standard’ durable system. 

After the successful launch of Interpon D2525 Structura Flex, the capability has now been extended to the full-color range and is also available in Gloss, Satin and Matt for the European market.

Providing the ability to specify windows, doors and other aluminum features that need post-powder bending with super durable performance and a finish that was not previously possible. 

“Architects are increasingly moving towards superior durability to create built environments that inspire and endure. And because we’re always looking to innovate, we’ve extended the range of our pioneering solution to further support architects in creating a lasting legacy, with powder coatings that deliver quality, reliability and performance second to none,” said Remco Stokhof, European segment manager for Architectural Coatings at AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business.

Traditionally, the higher the durability of a coating, the lower the flexibility. 

This means if a piece of metal was pre-coated and then needed to be bent or formed into shape, a standard durability powder coating would have to be used because they offer higher flexibility (to prevent cracking). Now the days of making that trade-off are over.

Interpon D2525 Flex meets Qualicoat Class 2 weathering requirements and Qualicoat Class 1 mechanical performance requirements, the industry-wide quality labels for liquid and powder coatings on aluminum for architectural applications.
