Libya has suffered from devastating floods caused by Storm Daniel. Jotun has decided to donate NOK 1 million ($94,000) to support Red Cross/Red Crescent in the area. Storm Daniel caused enormous destructions when it hit northeastern parts of Libya on Sept. 10, 2023. Heavy winds and rains led to flash floods that left tens of thousands of people missing and laid fragile infrastructure in ruins. According to international media, 11,300 people have been killed whereas more than 10,000 are reported missing as of Sept. 17, 2023. The numbers are expected to rise. Local units of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) quickly arrived to assist in evacuations and provide first aid. IFRC sent out an emergency appeal to the international community for urgent relief efforts. Through this emergency appeal, the IFRC is supporting the Libyan Red Crescent to provide emergency shelter, psychosocial support, healthcare, clean water and food to affected communities and restore family links with missing loved ones, IFRC reports on its website. “A part of our Corporate Responsibility strategy is to take responsibility in the areas where we operate, and Jotun wants to contribute economically to aid the emergency situation in Libya. By choosing Red Cross/Red Crescent as our partner, we know that the money is spent according to our intention,” said Kari-Ellen Liverod, group communications manager.
