CHINACOAT 2020 Goes Virtual

By Anthony Locicero, Associate Editor | 10.08.20

For the first time, the show will also be held online as well as in person.

CHINACOAT2020 (the 25th edition of the China International Exhibition for Coatings, Printing Inks and Adhesives) will be held in Guangzhou as scheduled Dec. 8-10 in Area A, China Import and Export Fair Complex (CIEFC), Guangzhou, P.R. China.

For the first time, organizers, together with Guangzhou Ground Show, are launching a Virtual Edition to provide exhibitors and visitors a brand new hybrid experience.

The virtual version consists of two parts – the “GZ Show” for in-person exhibitors and “Virtual Show” for those participating online.

Basic features of the virtual edition include 3D Exhibition Halls with 3D booths, e-business cards, exhibit showcases, company profiles, live chat, info download, exhibitor live streaming sessions, webinars, and more.

It also offers a Business Matching function, where visitors can locate targeted exhibitors to establish initial contact and to develop further engagement.

The virtual edition will be available for 60 days after the closing of the ground show.

The in-person event will span five exhibition halls (Halls 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 2.2 & 3.2).

Despite COVID-19 concerns, organizers reported that more than 600 exhibitors from 21 countries/regions have already confirmed their presence.

Exhibitors will showcase their products and services in five exhibit zones:  Powder Coatings Technology; UV/EB Technology & Products; International Machinery, Instrument and Services; China Machinery, Instrument and Services; and China and International Raw Materials.

CHINACOAT continues to host technical programs alongside the exhibition – including two Technical Workshops addressing the following topics:

“Deciding Elements of Coatings/Ink Formulation Optimization” and “Waterborne Industrial Coatings Applications in Infrastructure Development” – and a series of Technical Seminars presented by exhibitors.

“Deciding Elements of Coatings/Ink Formulation Optimization” will be led by Long Lin, BSc MSc Ph.D. C.Chem FIP3 FTSC FRSC, professor of Color and Polymer Science, director of DP Centre of Industrial Collaboration, head of Department of Color Science, the University of Leeds (Leeds, UK).

It takes place on Dec. 8 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in Meeting Room, Canton Fair Complex (Area A).

Description: Fast-advancing coating technologies continue to help various downstream industries expand their application horizon.

The burgeoning emergence of novel materials continues to create new possibilities. Coatings researchers, formulators and material engineers constantly seek new ways to develop breakthrough products.

However, successful R&D requires well-structured knowledge, in-depth understanding, and systematic interconnection of knowledge networks.

This Technical Workshop will offer opportunities for those new to the industry to consolidate their knowledge, as well as for veterans to renew and reinforce theirs.

Various case studies will be illustrated to help enhance delegates’ practical ability to improve productivity, reduce cost and turn innovations into real competitive advantages.

“Waterborne Industrial Coatings Applications in Infrastructure Development” will be led by Dr. Cai Yu, BSc, Ph.D., TS&D scientist, Dow Coating Materials, Dow Chemical Company.
It takes place on Dec. 9 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in Meeting Room, Canton Fair Complex.

Description: In response to the pandemic, the central government together with the provincial governments, has heavily invested in a series of infrastructure projects, with a total estimate exceeding RMB 40 trillion.

The market is widely expecting such investment will generate a high demand for coatings and paint in the near future.

The infrastructure projects not only demand high performance products but also green, high-end, no/low VOC, lead-free coatings and paint, in turn catalyzing replacement of solvent-based coatings by waterborne coatings in various applications.

This Technical Workshop will illustrate the advantages and new possibilities of WB coatings with cases, cite 1K and 2K industrial coatings formulations and their successful outputs, the development and application of industrial coating additives, as well as provide smart and innovative solutions for broader applications.

Technical Seminars are also going live for the first time this year, where visitors who are unable to participate in person can join in webinar format to interact and engage with speakers directly, and to collect relevant product information, latest technology trends and industry policies online.

Since its inception in 1996, CHINACOAT has been dedicated to providing an international trading platform for suppliers and manufacturers of the coatings industry to connect with global trade visitors, particularly from China and Asia.

The show is held annually and alternates its venue between the cities of Guangzhou and Shanghai, P. R. China.

The 2019 Shanghai edition attracted more than 38,000 trade visitors from 89 countries/regions, together with more than 1,260 exhibitors from 32 countries/regions gathered on a gross exhibition area 97,000+ square meters – a new record for the show.

That’s an increase from the 35,540 trade visitors that attended in 2018.

CHINACOAT2019 hosted 60 technical seminars, attracting more than 4,000 participants.
