As a new phase of the CMP-MAP hull data analysis service that the company has been providing since 2019, CMP has announced that two elemental technologies of “CMP-MAP” have been awarded Products & Solutions (P&S) certification under Innovation Endorsement by ClassNK.

The hull data analysis service CMP-MAPaims to improve the fuel consumption during the life cycle of a ship by combining a PDCA cycle, including performance prediction and evaluation, with high-performance antifoulings.

The elemental technologies that have now been awarded P&S certification are as follows.

  • PIR simulation is performed by combining “Frictional resistance estimation using 3D hull roughness analyzer and FIR theory ver 3.0” and “Changes in the performance of antifoulings over time, such as hull fouling”. The benefits of using high-performance antifoulings can be estimated in terms of reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as improved CII ratings.
  • Performance analysis is carried out in accordance with ISO 19030, using actual data provided directly or via a sharing platform such as IoS-OP*3. The analysis results are visualized as parameters such as average speed loss and power increase ratio, as well as the benefit applying our products on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Operational profile analysis visualizes the operational and berthing status of a vessel based on the actual data obtained from the AIS database. The results are used to propose and develop antifoulings optimized for the operational profile of each vessel.

CMP strives to reduce CO2 emission from ships with high performance hull coatings. CMP’s SEAFLO NEO series, based on in-house developed and patented technology, was launched in 2010 and has presently estimated improvements of the energy efficiency for more than 3,000 ships, reducing their fuel consumption, on average, by 7.4 % and a total CO2-emission reduction of 50.5 million tons. *

SEAFLO NEO series (CF PREMIUM, M1 PLUS, SL Z, SL M and Z following SEAFLO NEO brand) come with proven fuel savings and excellent antifouling performance over 60 months, exemplified here by SEAFLO NEO series, saving on average 10% fuel for 17 containerships, 14 tankers, five car carriers and five bulk carriers docked in recent years for a minimum of 60 months long service intervals.

SEAFLO NEO series generates an ultra-low friction hull surface, reducing the absolute CO2-emissions of the vessel as well as minimizing the CO2-emissions throughout the service interval of a vessel via its antifouling properties using an optimized biocide package.

SEAFLO NEO series provides a FIR of down to 1.2 % – 1.5 % level (improving the EEDI/EEXI value) and a maximum average power increase of 4.5 % in a 60 months service interval (equivalent to 1.5 % speed loss, ISO 19030) which protects the CII-rating throughout the service interval.

*Compared to the vessel’s previous coating systems – on average equivalent to CMP’s standard SPC antifouling and an average daily fuel consumption of 25 tons.

Chugoku Marine Paints recently launched an ultra-low friction, hydrolysis antifouling “SEAFLO NEO SL M” with the latest silyl methacrylate antifouling technology.

In 1995 CMP launched the original silyl acrylate antifouling under the brand SEA GRANDPRIX to replace TBT antifouling coatings without sacrificing antifouling performance. SEA GRANDPRIX quickly became the first product of its kind widely applied for shipbuilding and dry-dockings for maintenance.

In 2011 CMP introduced SEAFLO NEO SL providing a low friction technology. Then in 2014, CMP further introduced the new generation of silyl methacrylate antifouling, SEAFLO NEO SL Z, a premium grade addition to CMP’s antifouling portfolio which utilizes a binder of tri-isopropyl silyl methacrylate, “TIPSMA”, a polymer formulated to further control the leach rate of the active ingredients and enhance ultra-low friction performance. To date, SEAFLO NEO SL Z has been applied to more than 800 ships for newbuildings and drydock repair projects.

The antifouling surface built by “TIPSMA” technology provides for a minimal average leach layer under all operation conditions including high seawater temperatures and low activity, continuously renewing itself by a controlled self-polishing mechanism allowing for ultra-low friction and antifouling protection over a longer period of time.
