PPG recently completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project in the United Kingdom at the Millbrow Care Home in Widnes, which provides dementia, palliative, respite and convalescent care to nearly 45 residents. The project marked a first for employees from the Runcorn-based Whitford business following the nonstick coatings manufacturer’s acquisition by PPG this past March. PPG provided JOHNSTONE’S paint products for the refurbishment of the care home’s summer house and decking area. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in nearby Runcorn, where PPG has an industrial coatings manufacturing facility. “The summer house looks fabulous, and we are very grateful for all the hard work,” said Lynne Moss, manager, Millbrow Care Home. “We will be able to use this space for future events, and residents can spend time on the deck in the warmer months.” More than 15 PPG volunteers painted the summer house’s exterior in a color palette of Brilliant White and Kingston Aqua. The colors were chosen in consideration of residents and visitors who are visually impaired, elderly or have dementia to allow them to better navigate their way around buildings. The volunteers also replanted the care home’s gardens and painted the decking area so the residents could better enjoy the grounds. “The Colorful Communities program is a cornerstone of PPG’s work to protect and beautify the world through support for our local communities,” said Richard Goode, PPG market manager, industrial coatings, UK and Nordic region. “This particular project was a great opportunity to introduce this important part of PPG culture to our new employees and align on our desire to drive sustainable changes in our areas of operation.”
