The year 2020 has truly been unprecedented. Now entering our ninth month under lockdowns and travel restrictions, all indications are the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to permeate all aspects of our lives. Business travel and conferences and tradeshows virtually came to a standstill in 2020 and many shows planned for 2021 have already rescheduled for later in the year in the hopes that the situation will improve once a vaccine becomes available.
Video conferences and virtual tradeshows are now the norm. Coatings World has done our best to adapt to this new online format. Based on the popular Expert Panel Discussions held each year at the Waterborne Symposium, we hosted a number of free webinars.
Our first expert panel – Coatings Innovations to Help Fight COVID-19 – featured a panel comprised of Tom Bowtell, CEO of the British Coatings Federation, a trade association representing the interests of decorative, industrial and powder coatings and printing ink manufacturers in the UK; Steve McDaniel, general partner and chief innovation officer of Reactive Surfaces, an Austin, Texas-based functional additives and coating company; and David Ward, CEO of Adaptive Surface Technologies, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based industrial technology company that produces materials and coatings that repel fluids, contaminants and biological fouling.
Our second expert panel – Conducting Business in 2020, a Year Like No Other – was comprised of Armodios Yannidis, CEO, Vitex, a Greek-based paint and coatings company; Manoel Rodrigues, regional commercial director, Metal Coatings, Americas, AkzoNobel; and John Payne, senior director, MEFE - Technology Development, Microsoft.
The webinars are archived on our website and I suggest you take a look as our experts offered unique insights.
As we enter into 2021 I am cautiously optimistic that life will begin to return to normal. Most tradeshows for the beginning of 2021 have been postponed or have adopted a virtual format. Our plans are to continue to offer our readers enhanced content to bridge the gap between in-person and virtual events.
Happy holidays and let’s hope 2021 brings better days!
