As a sponsor of Wrigley Field for the 2009 season, Valspar unveiled the newly painted Wrigley Field Marquee and Scoreboard at the Cubs' first home game of the season. The paint firm created three limited-edition colors for the Chicago Cubs—Pinstripe Blue, Marquee Red and Ivy Green—and will be available to consumers beginning June 1st.
"We couldn't be more excited to have our scoreboard and marquee look better than ever for the 2009 season," said Matt Wszolek, director of sales and promotions, Chicago Cubs. "Not only is Valspar helping us keep Wrigley beautiful, they're reaching out to our fans as well. We're proud that for the first time Valspar is offering our fans the chance to incorporate Wrigley Field spirit into their homes with Valspar's new limited-edition colors."
Valspar's sponsorship also includes interactive games for fans, announcements and signage during the 81 home games, as well as advertisements in the Cubs Official Scorecard throughout the 2009 season.
"It's an honor for Valspar to be the 2009 official paint of Wrigley Field," said Scot Karstens, vice-president of marketing, Valspar. "Valspar has a rich history of protecting the surfaces of cultural icons across the country, including the famous Navy Pier in Chicago as well as National Trust for Historic Preservation sites. We are pleased to continue our tradition of preserving treasured landmarks by enhancing Wrigley Field with our beautiful and durable paint."
