Remmers Baustofftechnik GmbH was awarded the contract to supply coatings for the Bandra Worli Sea Link Bridge in India. It is estimated that 120,000 liters of Remmers’ Funcosil Betonacryl will be required to cover the 5.6 km long bridge. This waterborne coating is formulated with Mowilith pure acrylic emulsion from Celanese Emulsion Polymers.
Remmers chose its Funcosil Betonacryl coating because it met all of the durability and weathering requirements for the historic Indian project. The premium coating features very good exterior durability including resistance to driving rain and splash resistance, certified according to DIN standards, listed in BAST (ZTV-SIB). On the technical side, the coating has high carbon dioxide diffusion resistance (sd value more than 252m) while also offering low water vapour resistance (sd value less than 0,3m) and a low water absorption coefficient.
Remmers chose Mowilith pure acrylic emulsion to ensure the coating’s ability to withstand the severe weather of the region, especially during the extremely wet monsoon season. The basic properties of the emulsion were essential for use in the open sea environment to protect the coating from waves splashing against the structure as the bridge stretches across the Arabian Sea from the cities of Bandra to Worli, in the suburbs of Mumbai.
