Key Plastics, a manufacturer of automotive interior, exterior and under-the-hood plastic components, continued to expand its global manufacturing capabilities with the successful launch of a new, state-of-the-art flatbed paint system at its Chihuahua, Mexico plant. The advanced system paints plastic parts for automotive interiors and features in-house-designed software that can process over 100 different colors, including high gloss and piano black.
“This new system in Mexico, along with the UV hard coat system launched in China last October, demonstrate our long-standing commitment to provide world-class paint options to our customers around the globe,” said Kurt Jensen, COO of Key Plastics. “We have paint facilities in six countries and will continue to look for opportunities to expand globally.”
The new system, housed in a 30,000-square-foot facility expansion, was designed to operate specifically in the desert conditions of Chihuahua, Mexico. It offers year-round temperature and humidity control, as well as reverse osmosis water for humidification. The system offers a wide variety options including Base/Clear wet on wet capability for 1k, 2k, solvent and waterborne paint.
“Our automotive customers are constantly looking to improve the look and feel of their vehicles, including innovative paint options for plastic parts,” Jensen said. “Our sophisticated paint systems allow us to provide high-quality, customized, and aesthetically-pleasing plastic components that surpass our customers’ expectations.”
