Shell Chemicals, manufacturer and marketer of Gas-To-Liquids (GTL) solvents for the metalworking, industrial lubricants, rolling oils and other industries, today announced its participation in the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers’ (STLE) Annual Meeting. The event, held May 15-19 in Las Vegas, will feature Shell Chemicals’ recently-introduced line of premium quality products derived from GTL technology. In addition to a booth exhibit, Shell Chemicals will present the benefits of its line of GTL solvents for use in Metalworking during the STLE Commercial Marketing Forum at 5.30 pm on May 18th.
“The metalworking fluids market has been on the rise due to the resurgence of manufacturing in the United States and in other parts of the globe,” said Sriram Musunuri, global marketing manager for Shell Chemicals Solvents. “Shell Chemicals is proud to demonstrate its line of innovative GTL solvents at the STLE Annual Meeting, where we will meet face-to-face with companies and industry leaders that can benefit from this technology.”
GTL fluids and solvents are produced through a synthesis process that unlocks the value of natural gas by converting it into valuable, high quality liquid hydrocarbon products. GTL-based metalworking fluids offer benefits to the user in comparison to using traditional oils and emulsions. These benefits include non-corrosivity, higher flashpoints, lower toxicity and skin irritation, and improved biodegradability.
“Shell Chemicals’ GTL solvents have a number of metalworking-friendly properties, including a narrow boiling range, high chemical and oxidation stability, low toxicity and skin irritancy, low vapor pressure, low odor and more. Benefits such as increased fluid lifetime expectancy, minimization of corrosion and staining, lower environmental impact and lower viscosity (compared to conventional metalworking oils) are just a few reasons why our products are of great benefit to the market,” said Musunuri.
