Vinyl and fabric manufacturers searching for stain-resistant coating chemistries can now easily see related test results for APV Engineered Coatings’ recently re-launched VYNGUARD Polycarbonate Coating formulation. The company has launched a video that shows how VYNGUARD Polycarbonate performs when exposed to a number of common chemical and food stains.
The video, demonstrates the superior performance of VYNGUARD Polycarbonate when applied to a printed and embossed vinyl decking material and subsequently exposed for four hours to a wide range of chemical agents and common stains.
Chemical substances included four different consumer cleaning chemicals, candle wax, hair dye, de-icer granules, bleach, crayon, marker and pen. Food stains included mustard, BBQ sauce, ketchup, blueberries, coffee, wine, lemon juice, vegetable oil, lipstick and bacon grease. After exposure, the surfaces were wiped with a dry rag, then cleaned with soap and water, an upholstery cleaner and a bleach-and-water solution.
Results revealed no change in gloss, blistering, softening, swelling or adhesion of the VYNGUARD Polycarbonate coating after the four-hour test. The samples were then exposed to sunlight for 8.5 hours, after which any slight remaining discolorations were removed completely.
Available in solvent- or water-based, VYNGUARD chemistries provide an easy-to-apply clear, protective layer that can mitigate plasticizer from migrating through the surface. The formulations exceed industry standards for UV resistance, dirt shedding, moisture resistance, severe stain protection and fungal resistance, depending on the chemistry. Pigmented topcoats or print ink formulations are made with specialty grade inorganic pigments for superior color fastness. They have long coating lifecycles and provide high-definition print reception, superior dot gain properties and excellent adhesion.
